Customer engagement is essential for efficient water use and the District is committed to providing customers with effective tools to help reduce water use. As identified in the 2022 5-Year Strategic Plan, MWD has developed a comprehensive Water Use Efficiency Plan to support pro-active partnering with the community. This new rebate program stems from that Plan, and is intended to reward conservation actions.

Conservation is an important source of water, and the only one that is people dependent. We’re  hopeful this rebate program will drive customers to conserve. Keeping water use aligned with limited water supply availability and State regulations, while continuing to support the garden-like nature of the community, is not something that MWD can do alone – we’re in this together!

MWD’s partner agency CalWEP is administering the program, and most important details can be found on their web site. Here are a few key points: Rebates are cash reimbursements based on proof of qualified purchases; the program is not retroactive from the start date; rebate amount is not to exceed the total cost of the device (i.e. toilet, appliance, drip, timer, etc.) or project in cases where labor is a reimbursable cost; some of the rebates (i.e. landscape conversions) are subject to an inspection; rebates are subject to available funding for the program.
